Dallas Moore and the Snatch Wranglers
Peace In The JonesThe Big Rock Show
Expo Dome at Expo Five
Louisville, Kentucky
July 10, 2004

Well I was in Louisville , Kentucky and once again I was not at Churchill Downs(though I was there the weekend before). My buddy Krazy Kenny Mullins(who first turned me onto Dallas) and I drove through what seemed like a monsoon and one time we probably should have had a boat. But we made it to Expo Five, which is part of the Derby Park Traders Circle Flea Market. This is where Dallas Moore and the Snatch Wranglers were going to film their very first live DVD. I had to ask Dallas why they chose the Expo Dome and why they didn't film closer to home in Cincinnati. He explained that they had played there before and liked The Dome a lot. Plus another band shot a DVD there and told them how well it went. Plus Dallas really liked the stage as well as the Dome itself. Plus the band has always had a strong following in Louisville. He hopes to have it out by Christmas, but said between the band's shows and his own acoustic shows that he is playing on the average of 5-6 times a week, which is keeping him busy.

We missed all of The Big Rock Show and most of Peace In The Jones. When Dallas Moore and the Snatch Wranglers walked on stage the crowd was more than ready for them. They opened up with "Lookin'Out For You" from their "High On The Hog" CD and for the next two hours ripped through some familiar sonds as well as some new ones that has recently been written. Guitarist Chuck Morpurgo once again did a masterful job and I believe one day you will see his picture on the front of Guitar Player Magazine. The whole band was impressive and some newer songs like "The King Of Bullshit Mountain" and "Down In Dixie" were big crowd favorites. Bassist Bob Rutherford and Drummer Rocky Parnell are one solid rhythm section. I have never seen Dallas do a solo acoustic show other than a few times during a Snatch Wranglers show he would doo a song or two. He did several songs this night as well as a Bluegrass song where he did some pretty impressive picking. He and Chuck together played some very impressive double leads. Chuck told me recently that Dallas was the best guitar paertner he had ever played with and one of the reasons is because they don't have to sit down and work out note for note. While they are tight indeed, there is a looseness about it that definitely adds to the music.
I personally cannot wait for this DVD to come out, and I already wish I had at least a CD of that night's show. I have a feeling that when this DVD is released a lot of people who have never seen this band before will be making road trips to see them. A stellar performance from high quality musicians playing first class music
