This debut album comes from this new addition to the country
firmament is a welcome breath of fresh air from the usual cookie cutter product emerging
from Nashville. Moore arrives in both raw execution and heartfelt commitment,
dedicating his album to David Allen Coe, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and writing and
singing songs that mirror that renegade spirit. The production on this collection of
tunes is both raw and spare, underproduced to keep the focus tightly on Moore's songs and
raspy, rhythmic vocals. While it would be easy to group Moore in with others working
similar retro-outlaw turf, his well-crafted songs, warts and all vocals, and irrepressible
energy earmarks as a one of a kind who could well develop and add his own strain to the
genre. Highlight tracks include Moore's "Who Told You Know Who,"
"Whiskey Helps," the eerie solo acoustic turn on "Son of Carolina" and
a spirited pedal to the metal cover of "Rednecks, White Sox and Blue Ribbon
Beer." A most impressive debut from an artist who clearly wants to keep waving
the flag of outlaw country, trends be damned. |
