Hot Grits Southern Music Reviews - July, 1999

More Outlaw Country than Southern Rock, "One More Ride" is an admirable effort from road dog Dallas Moore.  Some pretty tight guitar work wraps itself nicely around gritty vocals that mix one part Southern Rock and three parts country.  Moore has one of the most unique voices I've heard lately, a deep, country twang.

Some of the songs are truly gems, especially the George Jones influenced "Every Sad Song on the Jukebox," a flat out country honky tonk ditty and "Bad Checks" features some nice banjo work.  "Lessons I've Learned" is as country as it gets, and "Just What I Need Tonight" is a country romp set to a Jimmy Buffet beat.  The background vocalist, Jennie DeVoe, does a great job of harmonizing, same as she did on the set opener, "Tonight I Own the Wind."

The title track "One More Ride" shows equal influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd and David Allan Coe and may well be the best track on the disc.   An Outlaw biker power ballad.

While Dallas Moore's vocal style may seem a little "rough around the edges" to some, it goes without saying that he has a lot of passion and country fire.  It'll be interesting to see what he comes up with next.
