Disc 'N' DatCincinnati Enquirer - May 14, 1999Review of "Live - Back at the Saddle" by Larry Nager. DALLAS MOORE "We're gonna have a big ol' time," Dallas Moore promises at the outset of his new CD, recorded last New Year's Eve at The Silver Saddle in New Burlington. In front of a raucously adoring crowd and backed by his rough and ready country-rock band, this raspy-voiced local guy keeps his promise. Live is a rowdy set of 18 songs, including covers of Merle Haggard, Charlie Daniels, Billy Joe Shaver, Johnny Russell's honky-tonk anthem "Rednecks, White Sox and Blue Ribbon Beer" and the country classic "Mountain Dew." Most of the songs are Moore originals and there are some good ones here, including "Wastin' Good Whiskey", the biker favorite "One More Ride", a bluegrassy "Bad Checks" and "Whiskey Helps", a rocking celebration of the beverage's amnesia-inducing qualities. As long as Dallas Moore's out there, outlaw country is alive and kicking. |
